A native to Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in performing arts as she grew as a child. The choir she sang in was entered into performances in singing contests, and was a part of the community theatre and in high school. Then she moved to Los Angeles and studied theatre at the University of Southern California. For one year and a half, she portrayed Belle the princess of Beauty and the Beast. She quit college to find an agent for talent, and started auditioning for films and television. Butler made an appearance as the guest on the TV series CSI: Miami, CSI: NY. Her role was also featured in two films: A Couple of White Chicks at the Hair Dresser (2008) and Flu Bird Horror (2008 Syfy TV Horror Film). In 2008, she had been featured in the web series Luke 11:17. It was produced by Don Stark. Butler played a part in the web series I Love Vampires and a regular one in Luke 11:17. She was awarded the title for I Spit on Your Grave which is a remake of the 1978 film that had the same title. Although initially sceptical about the nudity of the film and its violence, the film's strong female edge and character arc convinced her to play the role. Butler starred in Jennifer Hills as a novelist who is brutally gang-raped at a cabin while traveling. Steven R. Monroe, the director of the film announced it on the 8th October the 8th of October, 2010. Butler started shooting The Stranger Within with Estella and William Baldwin, the psychological thriller set in Mallorca in November 2011. In addition to New York City and Copenhagen, the film was scheduled for shooting on location in Copenhagen Denmark. She also became part of the crew for Treachery that starred Michael Biehn. The independent feature film began filming at Los Angeles in early 2012. Butler was a part of the 2013 terror film The Demented with Michael Welch and Kayla Ewell.

The Cabin in the Woods Mighty Fine Icy Quake The Holiday Heist Case 39, with Renee Zellweger are among her many other TV and film credits. Ferland has, on top of her Emmy nomination she has received in her career nearly fifty other awards. This includes a Young Artist Award and a CAMIE Award.
